Old age, older people, their employment and education in Slovenia
DANET, its activities and achievements were discussed in a number of international events hosted by Slovenian Third Age University over the last six months.
Representatives of this university took part in the 3.rd International Conference on the development of organisational sciences in March in Portorož to lead a Panel on silver economy, flexible forms of employment of older people which are necessary as to make the labour market truly flexible for all generations.
In Ljubljana sociologists from Slovenian Third Age University contributed to the creation of the new section of the National Society of Sociology, called Sociology of long lived society.
DANET was further introduced in a number of international events: 5- day international training in the framework of SLIDE, digital storytelling in Europe, International conference Is older adult education socially engaged in the framework of the PAE project and in Milano during the transnational meeting within the EU project LearnersMot on how to trigger primary motivation in older workers using ICT.
In cooperation with the Slovenian Ministry of Education Slovenian Third Age University hosted its international conference Challenges And Perspectives Of Global Networking For The Development Of The New Image Of Old Age . Presented were EURAG and its networking role, Pass-it-On , a world network of experts in the field of old age and older adult education and DANET. Discussed were the topics of the urgently needed interconnectivity of organisations and people, the great freedom of taking initiatives within networks, the role of key individuals in networks.
DANET was presented by Tihomir Žiljak and Dušana Findeisen. Moira Alan ( Pass-it-on) emphasized that all issues, all major social changes are problems concerning older people and are problems they share with all generations. They are to be solved by contributing
endeavours of older people. Older people should not hope for others to solve them without their own involvement. “No excuse, we are the ones we have been waiting for….” said Moira.
