In January 2016, the Danube-Networkers of Ulm officially launched the new project “Tastes of Danube. Bread. Wine. Herbs” after a pilot phase which ran from October to December 2015. Until the present day civil society institutions, universities, colleges, and schools from 11 different countries in the Danube Region had been included as project partners. The project is partly sponsored by the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg and the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung. The project is designed to run for a year, with the option of prolongation.
You will find an overview and details of “Tastes of Danube” on the international project website: www.tastes-of-danube.eu. The main language is English but the main parts are translated in other project languages. The Website serves not only as a newsroom but also as a communication and exchange platform for all participants. Click on one of the cities on the map to see the latest articles belonging to it. “Tastes of Danube” is a sequel of the successful project “The Wanted Danube”, which was conducted by ILEU e.V. from 2013 to 2015. Like “The Wanted Danube”, “Tastes of Danube” is a project designed for transnational activity. Plans are to make questionnaires on the topic of bread to be able to compare views and opinions in the different countries, to produce an international anthology about bread, to call up for an international photo competition and many other activities.
In the spring of 2016, the activity “Danube-Bread on Tour” will start: A piece of home-made sourdough substance will leave Ulm for a trip along the Danube, to be passed from one participant group to the next. Every group who receives the leaven will use it for a baking activity and create a “Danube bread” with ingredients of their own choice and share it with other people, and then will send a photo of the result “Danube Bread on Tour” which will be documented in the Internet.
The first project results will be shown to the public during the International Danube Festival Ulm/Neu-Ulm 2016 the 8th to 10th of July. Along with the Festival events there will be organized a an expert’s congress on the topic of the main theme in different scientific perspectives which will take place on July 8th, 2016 in Haus der Begegnung as a symposium to the topic “Tastes of Danube. Let’s taste it.” Representatives of different partner groups meet in the framework of the 10. International Danube Festival 2016 and present the results so far of the project “Tastes of Danube”. The symposium conveys for the different key issue areas through its experts a scientific background in a transnational comparison. Methodical approaches will be discussed and exchanged within different working groups. Potential further projects to the themes lifelong learning, cultural education, sustainable tourism, social entrepreneurship, professional training will be taken into consideration.
The 10th of July also will be a public Danube – Citizen’s Breakfast on the “Herdbruecke”, bridge between Ulm and Neu-Ulm above the Danube. The motto will be “Share your bread with Danube-neighbours”! Have a look at www.tastes-of-danube.eu and join us!
