3.8. The Day „Bread Binds Us“ of Slivo Pole Region, Bulgaria in the frame of the Action “Bread-Baking-Week Along the Danube” in Bulgaria

Abstract: August 16, 2017, was named “The Bread Binds Us” to the Municipality of Slivo Pole. The main events were organized in the concert hall of the village of Ryahovo.

1) The “Bread Binds” Culinary Competition connects us to bread and bakery products that are foreign or from other regions of Bulgaria but are made in the municipality.

2) Concert for folk songs and dances related to bread with participants – the clubs of the Chitalishte in the Municipality.

The event was attended by 121 bakeries of 97 participants – grandparents, grandmothers, and grandchildren. The concert featured 19 clubs with participants of all ages.

The two events attracted more than 400 participants from the 11 villages and a town in the municipality.

At the suggestion of Mrs. Veska Uzunova at the Slivo Pole Municipality Week One Day, August 16, 2017, was selected for the day ” The Bread Binds Us”. Under the leadership of Mrs V. Uzunova and with the support of the Mayor of Slivo Pole Region Mr. Valtnin Atanasov, two major events were organized:

  • The “Bread Binds” Culinary Competition connects us to bread and bakery products that are foreign or from other regions of Bulgaria but are made in the municipality.
  • Concert for folk songs and dances related to bread with participants – the clubs of the Chitalishte in the Municipality.

97 participants presented 121 breads and bakery products such as Romanian Mamaliga, French Pastry, German Cake, Austrian Strudel, Sofia Banitsa, Greek Bread with Olives, Turkish Salt Banites, Hungarian Bakers, etc. Over 400 people visited the exhibited items, after which the jury started “examining the qualities of the exhibits”.

For two hours in the big hall of the village of Ryahovo was held a concert for folk songs and dances.

The participants shared the bakery products at dinner on the bank of the Danube. The mayor gave awards to the masters of the three most delicious bakery productions and the organizers.
