Abstract: Famous Serbian doctor, writer, and translator, founder of the first gerontological department in Serbia, Laza Lazarevic, soon will have memory table on Faculty of medicine in Germany where he studied. The plan is to mark also places where other famous Serbs in Berlin worked and lived.
The main initiator of the project is the National Foundation for human ageing dr Laza Lazarevic in cooperation with the Central Union of Serbs in Berlin. We applied and get a donation from Ministry of foreign affairs (The office for cooperation with diaspora and Serbs in the region), Ministry of culture and City of Sabac (birthplace of Laza Lazarevic).
Berlin days of Laza Lazarevic is one part of bigger project A trail of famous Serbs in Berlin. There is few reasons for initiating this project: Bridge that was built in cultural cooperation between Serbian and German people which was made by Vuk Karadzic, Dositej Obradovic, Gete, Herder, Grim brothers… was never destroyed. On that bridge are also famous Serbs such as Nenadovic, Nikolajevic, Stanislav Vinaver, Ivo Andric, Milos Crnjanski, Laza Lazarevic…
After study and work in Berlin Laza Lazarevic became first Serbian doctor in Encyclopedia of World Medicine.
Idea of project is to identify important Serbs who lived and worked in Berlin, find authentic places of their living and working space, make some documentation about them, period of their work, make some exhibition about their lives and to put memory table on authentic places and to make some touristic tour “A trail of famous Serbs in Berlin”. Table of Laza Lazareivc will be on the building of Medicine faculty in Berlin where he studied).
Also, we will make an exhibition of most important parts of Laza Lazarevic’s life in Serbia and Germany – childhood in Sabac, education in Belgrade, a study in Berlin, marriage, medical work and his novels. Explanations will be on Serbian and German, we also planed interactive class in Berlin with our pupils, to make a presentation of theatre performance Svabica, and to make contact with German gerontological society because Laza Lazarevic had an important roll in the geriatric field.
